Salted Maple Oatmeal



I like salt. *Phew* feels good to get that out there! So to make this oatmeal hit me in all the right breakfast senses, I like to add a touch more salt than oatmeal calls for - it helps my breakfast to feel edgy and rebellious. My husband hates the taste of it, but I love it! Here goes:

1/2 heaping cup quick oats (but not the 1-minute oats, I have some pride!) or one serving of whatever oats you fancy
1/2 tsp of salt
1 cup of water
1 heaping TBSP pure maple syrup or honey
1 TBSP (not heaping) ground flax seed
LOTS of cinnamon, at least 2 tsps

Combine the oats, salt and water into a large microwave safe bowl (we don't like to have to clean up spills). Cook in the microwave for 3 minutes. Once out of the micro you can add the maple/honey and flax seed and give it a good stir. Then play Goldie locks until the oatmeal is the right temperature to eat! Voila!
